Privacy Policy

Version 1.0 · Last updated: 24 September 2026

1. Who we are

Driveway is a peer-to-peer equipment rental marketplace operating in Australia at www.getdriveway.app.

This policy explains how Paul Eveleigh, trading as Driveway (ABN to be confirmed) ("Driveway", "we", "us") collects, uses, stores and discloses personal information, in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

By using Driveway you agree to your personal information being handled as described here.

2. What we collect

When you create an account

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your mobile number
  • Your password, stored in scrambled form and never visible to us
  • Your suburb, if you give one
  • Which version of these documents you accepted, and when

When you list an item

  • The item’s details, photos, and your pickup, dropoff and return instructions
  • Where the item is kept, including the street address and precise location

When you book an item

  • The booking dates and the item booked
  • Payment details, handled by Stripe — we never see or store your full card number
  • The deposit hold placed on your card

When something goes wrong

  • Damage claims, photos taken at pickup and return, and anything either party sends us about a dispute

After a rental

  • The review you leave, and the review left about you

When you use the app

  • Messages you send to other users through Driveway
  • Your device’s time zone, which we use to show listings in your city
  • Your location, only if you tap "Use my location" — used for that search and not stored
  • Technical information such as your device type and the pages you visit

3. Why we collect it

  • To run your account and let you list, book and message
  • To take payments, hold deposits and pay hosts
  • To show listings near you
  • To let a host and a renter arrange a handover
  • To handle damage claims and disputes fairly
  • To send you emails about your bookings, your account and your password
  • To keep Driveway safe, prevent fraud, and meet our legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

4. What other users can see

  • Your first name and profile photo are shown on your listings and bookings.
  • Your listing’s suburb is shown publicly. Its exact address is only shown to a renter once a booking is confirmed.
  • Your pickup and dropoff instructions are only shown to a renter with a confirmed booking.
  • Your home address, email address and phone number are never shown to other users.
  • Reviews you leave and receive are shown publicly once both sides have reviewed, or after the review window closes.
  • Messages you send through Driveway are visible to the person you send them to, and to us where we need to investigate a dispute or a safety concern.

5. Who else we share it with

We use these suppliers to run Driveway. Each gets only what it needs.

About the listing suggestions: when you add photos to a listing, those photos are sent to Anthropic so it can suggest a title, description, and cleaning and safety notes. You choose whether to keep, edit or ignore what it suggests. Only listing photos are sent — never your personal details.

We may also disclose personal information where the law requires it, or where it is needed to investigate fraud, a safety concern, or a legal claim.

6. Information sent overseas

Some of the suppliers above are outside Australia. Before sending your personal information to them, we take reasonable steps to ensure they handle it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

7. Keeping it safe

We protect your personal information with access controls, encrypted connections, and stored passwords that cannot be read even by us.

If a data breach occurs that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.

8. Seeing and correcting your information

You can see and change your name, phone number and suburb in your Driveway profile at any time. Changing your email address needs your password and a confirmation from the new address, and we tell your old address whenever it changes.

You can also ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account. Write to support@getdriveway.app. We will respond within a reasonable time, normally 30 days.

Some information has to be kept even after an account is closed — for example booking and payment records we are required to keep for tax purposes, or records relating to a dispute.

9. Cookies and similar technology

Driveway stores information on your device to keep you logged in and to remember your settings. We do not use it to track you across other websites, and we do not use advertising or analytics trackers.

10. Children

Driveway is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. How long we keep it

We keep your personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as long as the law requires, and then delete it securely.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will publish the new version here and, where the change is significant, tell you in the app and ask you to accept it.

13. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, contact us first at support@getdriveway.app and we will investigate.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au, or by phone on 1300 363 992.
